What comprises a “typical” Thanksgiving meal?

Thanksgiving dishes and sides vary dependent on location. Turkey is a given nationwide, although Southern folks serve up ham as well. Side dishes range from casseroles to corn to oysters up North.

But everyone loves mashed potatoes.

In August in Minnesota, a town named Barnesville holds a festival called Potato Days to celebrate the humble spud. One of their more popular events is the Mashed Potato Sculpture Contest. Contestants are given half an hour to turn a bowl of cold mashed potatoes into an artistic masterpiece.

A lady named Monique Daley has a site showcasing her award-winning mashed potato creations.

All Potato Days sculptures must be made on site, but artists can bring additional props along to really make their sculptures pop.

Beats the pants off of making mashed potato volcanoes at the dinner table!
